It seems no one is safe in the Australian luxury fashion market after news has emerged that famed designer Josh Goot has put his label into voluntary administration in a bid to save his 10 year old business.

Goot says via a statement: “We have decided to place the company into voluntary administration in order to restructure the business in the wake of well-documented difficult trading conditions in the fashion industry”.

The designer hinted that the companies problems were in relation to the high value of the Australian dollar and the crowded fashion retail market now dominated by international high street and luxury brands.

The news that another Australian designer is in financial trouble is unfortunately not uncommon with powerhouse designers such as Lisa Ho and Collette Dinnigan both bidding farewell to their high end labels in recent years.

It’s not all doom and gloom however and the party is not over for Josh Goot. Business will continue as usual in the Josh Goot boutiques and he will still be debuting his collection at the David Jones autumn/winter 2015 launch in Sydney and his designs will then be shown at The Grand Showcase event at this year’s Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival in March.

“We are committed to the future of the brand. We have the support of the creditors. Australian designers have to evolve and adapt and that’s what we are working on doing,” Goot told Fairfax Media.

Josh Goot is a favourite label of mine who produces garments of outstanding quality from a variety of premium fabrics including 100% silks emblazoned with digital prints, Australian wool and bonded viscose nylons. British Vogue even was once quoted as saying: “Every girl needs a little Josh Goot in her wardrobe”, following his London Fashion Week debut in 2008.

I truly hope that this is a move that does not signal the end for Josh Goot (who happens to be dating one of the most incredibly stylish women in the world, Christine Centenera) but simply a way of keeping up with the ever savage fashion pack. Josh Goot has been worn on countless red carpets and in front rows at international fashion weeks so I can’t imagine those loyal to him will allow his label to slide.

Here are a few of my favourite pieces from Josh Goot’s upcoming Autumn/Winter 2015 collection.
