Start the new year with a new skin regime

To start the new year I’m beginning a new series here on Watt To Wear in which I plan to share not only the clothes I wear but the beauty products I use and recommend.

Towards the end of 2014, life became… stressful, to say the least. University, a new job, health issues, various personal trials all took a toll on me, and my skin. I started resembling a 15 year old pimply version of myself instead of the clear skinned 22 year old I had become. So while some women choose to change their hairstyle when changing their life, I chose to change my skin care routine. I figured my hair looked fine the way it was, but my skin certainly did not.

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and by far the most noticeable so it makes sense to take good care of it and preserve it while you’re young. It also changes as your life does, so what worked for your skin a year ago may not be as effective anymore and why sometimes when everything else in your life changes, so should your skin care routine.

I found Paula’s Choice online and decided to give their starter pack to go after hearing great reviews and it’s obvious value for money. A cleanser, exfoliant and a day and night moisteriser for roughly $100.

The cleanser softly but effectively removes makeup and dirt and really gives your skin a total clean up and balance. I have combination skin so the balancing qualities really help neutralize my skin and prevent it becoming overly oily or overly dry.

The exfoliant removed all those dead skin cells and unclogs pores which in turn reduces blackhead breakouts. Daily exfoliation is a terribly underrated step but is incredibly important for clear skin. Paula’s Choice exfoliant also helps build collagen and improves uneven skin tone.

The moisteriser I use in the morning hydrates my skin but most importantly is SPF 30. Thankfully this moisteriser isn’t shinny so works well under foundation. I also can’t stress enough the importance of a moisteriser with sunscreen. Living in QLD you simply can’t go out everyday in the sun without it and not expect to end up looking like a handbag at 40.

As we sleep our bodies go into repair mode. Muscle fibers repair, we fight any viruses and we also repair our skin. Baring this in mind it’s important to give our skin a little extra help at night to repair itself. It’s so important to take care of your skin while you’re young, before it actually becomes a problem. Using a night cream like this from Paula’s Choice treats the eye area in particular to reduce wrinkles and maintain hydration.
