Top 10 summer essentials

Summer has finally arrived! Maybe not officially according to the calendar, but if my thermometer is anything to go by, it’s here! As the uni semester comes to a close for the year, all I can think of is spending long days at the beach followed by long nights at the clubs. One week, one single week until I am free of assignments and classes and I can enjoy these top 10 summer essentials.

In no particular order…

1. Wide brimmed hat

This can be a tricky one as it really depends on the shape and size of your face. If you have a smaller face, opt for a smaller brimmed hat, ideally only a hand and half width around, so as to not overpower your face and make it look smaller than it is. If you are lucky enough to have a wider face, go for a super wide brimmed hat with a wire band to manipulate it to suit you perfectly like the black hat below.

A straw hat with a flower is a summer must. Fun, fresh and cute as punch. Forever New do excellent straw hats like this one… and perfect for those of us with smaller faces.

Or why  not go crazy with a super sized hat like this from the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Show. If only… pink_barbara

2. Bikini

The number one most important rule when choosing a bikini is, as harsh as this may sound, choose a bikini that suits the body you have rather than the body you wish you had. No one can see the size written on the tag inside except you so pick the size that actually fits, not the size you can squeeze into. There is nothing worse than a muffin top bulging over the top of tight bikini bottoms. Add a sarong or kaftan if you are feeling self conscious about showing off your body at the beach, this way you can simply show off more of your excellent style with great beach accessories. One piece swimsuits can also be incredibly sexy and Victoria’s Secret excells in designing the most stunning one piece’s for all shapes and sizes.

3. Kaftan

Wouldn’t you rather saunter around the beach in one of these elegant kaftans than tied up in a towel? Of course. With such gorgeous kaftans as these on the market there is no excuse to lose your classy chic while at the beach.

4. Beach bag

To match your cutie patootie wide brimmed straw hat add a big straw beach bag like this stunning one by Marc Jacobs.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Or would you dare? Karl Largafeld thinks it’s cool…

5. Thongs/sandals/wedges

As far as actual thongs go, the beach is really the only place where they are truly acceptable. Havianas are the go to brand for durable, comfortable and if possible, stylish thongs.

If you are looking for something you will get a little more wear out of Wittner have an excellent selection of stunning sandals such as these for those hot summer days.

If however you are like me and never leave the house without a pair of heels on, wedges are the go for summer. A colourful pair of cork wedges like these from Betts are fantastic for adding a little bit of elegance to your beach attire.

6. Lorna Jane

Two words, Lorna Jane. If you want to wear that bikini you better wear some of these first. If you are like me and need some motivation to get into exercising, what is better than some seriously fabulous workout wear? As Australia’s leading active and sportswear brand, they have supportive, breathable and stylish workout wear for every sport or workout you can imagine, most with inspirational sayings labeled across them somewhere.

“I’ll dance to that!”

7. Clinique city block

Clinique city block is a sheer, broad-spectrum UVA/UVB daily sunscreen. It’s lightweight formula helps wick away perspiration and absorb excess oil. It’s perfect when worn on it’s own as it gives your skin a really even and fresh tone but can also be used as an invisible makeup primer. Absolutely essential to protect your skin from the harsh Australian sun.

8.  Clinique lip gloss

Clinique’s long last glosswear SPF 15 range is absolutely perfect for protecting your lips while still looking fabulous. A range of 18 gorgeous colours, the glosses protects your lips and is proven to stay on for up to eight hours.

9. Fake tan

If you live in Australia and wish to avoid looking like an old leathery handbag by age 45 I suggest swapping the tanning oil for the spray on tan. Salon tans will always provide the best results but can also be expensive and time consuming. My personal fake tan of choice is Le Tan instant fake tan in bronze. A natural brown colour that is easily applied, develops into a great natural colour and wears off without streaking after about 4-5 days.

10. Enormous beach towel

When at the beach I always recommend taking two beach towels, one to lay on and one to dry yourself with after you’ve been in the water. Tommy Hilfiger has a range of stunning and enormous beach towels, perfect for adding a little luxury to your beach trip without breaking the bank.

A surf life saver boyfriend and the latest vogue also don’t hurt when hitting the beach 😛

It’s nice to see your summer begins when our autum arrives… 😉

  2. This is a great post! All of those things I consider a summer essential!!

  3. I use Le Tan as well, but the spray not the foam. And, unfortunately, unless I’m at a social gathering, swimming means a sun shirt. D: Luckily I found a roxy one that can be unzipped to the bottom of your cleavage, which then makes me feel like some kind of busty scuba/Baywatch chick 🙂

I use the spray too! I used the foam a few times but felt it left me a bit streaky. I use the spray with a mit now and it goes of great every time. I am the same, I am ridiculously fair skinned and burn after 5 minutes in the sun so fake tan is the only tan I’ll ever get. Great idea about the sexy surfer shirt though, I might have to try that out!

      • Yeah, me and my sun shirt is a bit sad, but when I went away with a bunch of work friends last year to Samoa I realised that we were all doing it anyway and I had the nicest shirt. Gotta shake it if you got it.

Setting an icepack or even a cool compress contrary to the not in the
cheek within the region that hurts may relieve some of the pain.
This remedy is quite effective for tooth rot or shared toothaches
and whenever there is tissue inflammation. Cold’s
effective use may reduce the discomfort by decreasing the
tooth pain. An ice pack could be utilized several
times each day but for not more than fifteen minutes every time.
